Our School Library

We are very fortunate to have such a great library in our school. There is a very large selection of books from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 9 level. All of the libraries in the Prairie Rose Division are linked through the Shortgrass Library System. This means we can share books from school to school via a delivery system.

Students in Junior Kindergarten to grade 7 have scheduled library classes where they take out books, learn library skills and have stories read to them. Grade 8 and 9 students are welcome in the library on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 12:00-12:20. Our library also has the Accelerated Reading Program available and teachers often use this in conjunction with their Language/Reading programs.

Library Highlights

We have many extra-curricular programs run through the library.

We start off the year with SASCAR school-wide reading. SASCAR stands for Staff and Students Care About Reading. We compete in our color groups to see who can read the most minutes.
For grades K-6 we have 4 holiday crafts throughout the year for those who are interested. We have made edible Christmas trees, spooky Halloween mobiles, Valentines cookies, and Easter goodie bags to name just a few.
Every year we have one Scholastic Book fair. These book-fairs focus on literacy in the home and school. We have contests for free books, school decorating contests, free draws and surprise visitors like Franklin or Clifford.
Every other year we fundraise with an MS Readathon fundraiser. We raise money for a good cause while reading tons of books.
